Air Jordan VI Black: Fast and Furious
It’s fast and furious: this Jordan has mean lines with a body that doesn’t quit. In fact, it seems to get better with age following its 25-year history. While it was originally designed as a leather high-top, the Air Jordan VI has seen a variety of colorways and textiles, and has even waxed and waned between high-top and low-top styles. Now in 2016, the Air Jordan VI Black is causing whiplash with is upgraded features and fresh curb appeal.
The sports car-inspired Air Jordan VI has long been attributed to a “spoiler-like heel pull and other unique design elements” (“Air Jordan 6 Black,” Nike.com). Perforated leather detail, however, is what draws similarity between the sports car and this Jordan. It echoes the high-end leather bucket seats found in sports and luxury cars, such as in Mercedez-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Jaguar.
Of course with premium quality comes a high level of functionality. It’s no surprise that the perforations allow for maximum breathe-ability– but did you know that the tiny punctures also enhance the flexibility of the sneaker? By allowing air to penetrate the upper, the sneaker spreads out stress points by allowing for airflow. The Air Jordan VI Black conforms to the foot in a comfortable, flexible manner, donning the same luxurious comfort of the driver’s seat in a six-figure sports car.
The Air Jordan VI Black has all the right curves in all the right places (Thanks, Megan Trainor), beginning with the neoprene heel pull and tongue tabs. These details allow wearers to shift gears quickly with these easy on, easy off elements tabs.
The black leather upper of the Air Jordan VI Black presents a minimalist design with serious dimension. The sharp curves of a smooth, premium leather elegantly wrap the perforated toe box, quarter, and heel counter. The white accents on the rubber sole give the black-on-black Air Jordan VI an understated, but updated look in this retro. The white is also a throwback nod to the 1991 original Air Jordan VI, whose colorway was white and red.
Even the treads are for gear heads in the Air Jordan VI Black. The rubber out sole follows suit with perforation-like detail that places a white Jumpman logo at the very center. The simple dark blue “lightening bolt” accents are the only break from the predominantly black colorway. The dark blue also makes a brief appearance in the out sole, serving as a platform to the white detail.
It might be a stretch to say that the Air Jordan VI Black has headlights like a sports car, but the new reflective laces might say otherwise. These high-beam laces use reflective materials to create a lit-up look with every step. The silver-white accent adds that extra premium statement-making detail that gets noticed in a crowd. The laces also stay within style elements of the season, with the white-on-black color scheme that is especially popular for Winter 2016.
