Nike dials back to 1997 for its Air Max Zero Metallic Gold on May 18. Part celebration and part next-generation, Metallic Gold emerges as May’s sweetest Air Max drop. Don’t worry, though. You won’t have to give away all your gold, since this prize is only $150.

Metallic Gold, a Golden Oldie?
The shiny prize of May looks back to Tinker Hatfield’s original Air Max sketches (via Nike.com), but springs forward with its colorway and design.
Metallic Gold is a nod to the metallic details seen in OG Air Max 97. With Metallic Gold as the predominant color, Air Max Zero makes one statement: it’s second to none. Gold is for winners, and on the Air Max Zero, Nike champions its corner on the footwear market.
The design maintains the smooth, airy profile of the OG Air Max 97. It takes on Nike’s most modern, cutting edge elements, especially the much-loved lightweight mesh of the heel counter and toe box. Flat laces are another major difference in comparison to the round ones of OG Air Max 97.
The choice for flat laces, however, remains a good one. It keeps the lines tight and the profile smooth, making this crossover performance sneaker a golden choice for anyone.
Metallic Gold continues with the premium fit feature of Air cushioning, seen throughout the Air Max family. The characteristic sole is also seen, this time with a simplified and slightly smoother tread. The tread and groove pattern are mostly white, with the exception of the front and rear black detail.
Gold Medal Status
Air Max Zero Metallic Gold rises to gold medal status. It’s a credit to the Air Max family, and an achievement to the Nike legacy. The shoe climbs the pedestal as number one, but doesn’t forget its teammates.
Nike rolls out Metallic Gold as the choice colorway for its other Air Max releases of May 18. The Air Max Plus and Air Max 97 will feature the same color and shine as the Air Max Zero. Ladies can also snag Metallic Gold in one of three styles as well, as the Women’s versions also release the same day.
