Perhaps Nike wouldn’t still be around or perhaps there wouldn’t be any sneakerheads, if not for this one shoe, that changed the game forever.

In 1985 Nike signed Michael Jordan to an endorsement deal, granting him his own line of shoes. When he took the court for the Chicago Bulls his rookie season, he dawned the original Air Jordan’s in this black and red colorway.

The shoes however did not fit the NBA uniform guide at the time and the NBA banned MJ from wearing the shoes, and fined him $5,000 for every time he continued to play in them. Nike gladly payed the fines, which caused the Air Jordan’s popularity to sky rocket.

The NBA couldn’t ban Air Jordan mania from spreading. But you can ban crease from your kicks with sneaker shields.
